Exploring the National Library of Israel
Recently, the students at Machon Milton were treated to a tour of the beautiful, new National Library of Israel by their beloved teacher, Dafna Siegman, who also works at the Library.
The tour started with an explanation of the incredible architecture, designed by Herzog and de Meuron and Mann Shinar in a post-modernism style, where the building itself tells a story.
As Dafna explained, “The beauty and the grandeur is part of the building. It’s not the kind of library with books crammed on the walls. The books are all there. But it’s creating a certain environment above the standard.”
And indeed everything about the library is above the standard. We got to view the impressive new reading halls, filled with rare books, antique manuscripts, photo albums, unique maps, historical posters, personal archives, and more.
Dafna added an extra bonus by taking the students down to the stacks where all the library books are kept with an ingenious, computerized system of taking books out and is fascinating and mesmerizing to watch!
The students had lots of questions and learned so much. They learned enough to know that they’ll need to come back again to explore!
