Bnei Menashe learn scribal arts

Bnei Menashe learn scribal arts

A special course has opened in the Galilee for Bnei Menashe immigrants to Israel. ‘Safrus’, or scribal arts, is the special skill for transcribing Jewish holy scrolls such as tefillin, mezuzot and other religious writings including Torah scrolls. The course covers the halachic (Jewish legal) aspects of safrus as well as the technical aspects.
There are actually two parallel six-month courses being run, one in the Kuki language, for immigrants from Manipur, and the other in the Mizo language, for the immigrants from Mizoram.

The men in the course are excited to be participating and we are very proud of their initiative and commitment in learning this ancient and complex art.

B’hatzlacha (wishes for success) to all the participants!
