‘Wedding season’ for the Bnei Menashe
For those who follow these pages, the site of multiple Bnei Menashe brides and grooms in one magnificent wedding ceremony is not unusual. But that doesn’t diminish the joy, excitement and inspiration of these special occasions. This week did not disappoint as nine couples, all recent olim (immigrants) to Israel, married according to Jewish law and tradition after completing their formal conversion to Judaism.
The couples were of all ages, and had been married anywhere from a few years to decades. Yet all the ‘brides’ donned formal wedding gowns and veils, and the ‘grooms’ wore their best suits, as the immigrants from northeast India stood before their families and friends, and with all the pomp and circumstance of any Israeli wedding, reaffirmed their commitments to each other according to the laws of Moses and Israel.
