As part of the cutural preservation of lost and hidden Jewish communities at Ma’ani Center (Mercaz Ma’ani), we have multiple exhibits at our Jerusalem center. Currently, we are exhibiting beautiful photos and artifacts of the Bnei Menashe, from northeast India.
The objects include musical instruments, clothing, and gift items, all made by and/or unique to the Bnei Menashe Jewish community from northeast India.
Traditional necklaces Hat for men A flat roundish bamboo basket used for seiving rice and for drying vegetables for winter storage Metal/brass drum used for background music during traditional dance. This drum is also used to inform about someone’s death in the villages Note the pattern on the vest in the center is the same pattern on the boy in the photograph above. This indicates that they were of the same ‘family’ origin.
