Making a difference…with rice

Making a difference…with rice

In this challenging time that has literally affected the entire world, it is always heartwarming to see when people rise to the occasion to make things a bit easier for their fellow man. Recently, Covid-19 hit India particularly hard. While it was raging throughout the country, many Bnei Menashe, who live mainly in the northeastern states of Manipur and Mizoram, were out of work, struggling to make ends meet as they awaited the opportunity to make aliyah to Israel.

We right away shifted gears, temporarily, from the dream of Aliyah to the reality of the most basic needs. As rice is the staple of the diet in India, with a typical family there eating about a kilogram of rice each day, we focused on providing this necessity. Our modest goal was to supply 100 Bnei Menashe families, in Manipur and Mizoram, a 100 kilo bag of rice, enough for more them three months, to help them through this difficult time.

We were overwhelmed by the immediate generosity of our friends and supporters throughout the world, making the hardest part of our important campaign not raising the funds but physically distributing the massive bags to the families who needed them.

We just wanted to say thank you for your support and show you some photos of the successful operation. May the next successful Bnei Menashe project be their Aliyah to Israel.
