LISTEN: Michael Freund discusses “A Drop in the Ocean” on Land of Israel radio network
This week’s “Israel Uncensored” program on the Land of Israel radio network featured an interview with Shavei Israel Chairman Michael Freund speaking about his new book, “A Drop in the Ocean: A Daily Dose of Eretz Yisrael.”
Co-authored with Rabbi Moshe Lichtman, the book includes 365 short daily lessons based on Torah sources about the importance of living in the Land of Israel.
In the 30-minute program hosted by Josh Hasten, Michael Freund discusses what led him to write “A Daily Dose,” how his partnership with Rabbi Lichtman came about, and how he hopes the Jewish world will benefit from the book.
“I hope the it will inspire people to realize that the Land of Israel is where Jewish destiny is playing out,” Freund says in the interview. “Now that we are privileged to live in an era where coming here and living here is easier than perhaps it’s ever been, it’s time for more people to consider their options and do so in the context of our people’s historical love for this land.”
Many religious Jews living outside of Israel spend a great deal of time and effort asking their rabbis questions on all types of subjects, Freund adds. “Whether a particular item is kosher or a utensil can be used in certain circumstances. But when it comes to larger questions of where they’re spending this time on this earth, people don’t ask the question. I’m hoping this book will provoke people to ask: where is that I belong, where is it that my people belong?”
