Portuguese Jewish tourism fair in Israel
Rabbi Elisha Salas, Shavei Israel’s emissary to the Bnei Anousim in Portugal and Spain, was recently back in Israel to participate in a special tourism fair sponsored by the Israeli Ministry of Tourism to promote the “Rede de Juderias,” a new tourist trail that passes through a number of historic Jewish sites in the country.
Rabbi Salas is the consultant to what we’ve loosely translated as the “Network of Portuguese Jewish Quarters.” It’s an initiative of the Portuguese government.
Rabbi Salas was joined at the tourism fair by a Bnei Anousim community member from Belmonte and the town’s mayor. Rabbi Salas is based in Belmonte.

Pais Positivo, a Portuguese newspaper, wrote about Rabbi Salas’s work in with the Bnei Anousim in Portugal, about Belmonte’s “Beit HaAnusim” study center, and about the Rede de Judiarias. How’s your Portuguese? If you’re up to it, here’s the original:
