Shavei Israel Chairman Michael Freund to speak at Limmud U.K.
Shavei Israel Chairman Michael Freund has been confirmed as a presenter at December’s Limmud conference, to take place in Birmingham in the United Kingdom.
Now taking place in 40 communities worldwide, from Melbourne to Moscow, Limmud started in the U.K., which remains the largest of Limmud’s network of eclectic Jewish learning retreats.
December’s event, taking place in a series of hotels surrounding picturesque Pendigo Lake just outside the Birmingham city limits, is expected to see more than 3,000 people attend a range of classes, from contemporary issues in the Jewish world to traditional Torah study, with plenty of music and schmoozing in-between.
Michael will be expanding on his presentation from last year’s Limmud Jerusalem, entitled “’Like the stars in the sky’ – Jewish demography and destiny.” The talk is inspired by Shavei Israel’s work with “lost” and “hidden” Jewish communities in some of the most far-flung spots on the globe. This is Michael’s first appearance at Limmud U.K.
Other speakers flying in from Israel for Limmud U.K. include Bible and Talmud teachers Shmuel and Judy Klitsner, deputy international editor of The New York Times (and former Jerusalem bureau chief) Jodi Rudoren, Yisrael Beitenu Knesset member Hamad Amar and former Yesh Atid MK Dov Lipman, solar energy activist Yosef Abramowitz, world renowned author and Torah instructor Aviva Zorenberg, and Times of Israel political correspondent Haviv Retting Gur.
The full list of speakers is here.
The conference will take place Sunday to Thursday, December 25-29, 2016. There’s still space – visit the Limmud website for more details on where to stay and how to book.
