PICTURES: Rabbi Bin Nun visits two Bnei Anousim communities in Brazil

Bnei Anousim community members in Balneário Camboriú
Shavei Israel’s emissary to Brazil, Rabbi Yeshayahu Bin Nun, has been keeping busy since he started visiting Bnei Anousim communities in South America’s largest country earlier this summer.
There are at least 30 different Bnei Anousim communities in Brazil, although the exact number of individuals and families affiliated with each, the organization of those communities, as well as their physical infrastructure (such as synagogues and mikvehs) are all part of what Rabbi Bin Nun is exploring as part of his new job.
Rabbi Bin Nun sent us pictures from two of the communities he’s visited recently: a group of 50 Bnei Anousim living in the beach resort town of Balneário Camboriú in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, and a larger group of several hundred in the city of Natal, the seaside capital of the northeastern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Norte.
Both communities have built their own synagogues; Natal has a mikveh as well. But see for yourself – we’ve created two image galleries below.
