Shavei Israel’s activities in Poland have been mentioned several times in the news in the past few weeks.

The Times of Israel has an article about how young Polish Jews are embracing their “hip” Jewish ancestry. It includes a quote by Shavei Israel Chairman Michael Freund, who comments on the phenomenon of “Hidden Jews” – young Poles who discover later in life, usually from a dying grandparent, that they are actually Jewish. “The biggest surprise has been that this is a phenomenon that continues,” he says. “That it did not end within a few years of the fall of the Berlin Wall.”

Also in the news from Poland, the Polish television station ITV has a report about the renewed cemetery in Myslowice, which was recently opened to the public. Rabbi Yehoshua Ellis, Shavei Israel’s emissary to the Katowice region, where Myslowice is located, is interviewed in the video. It’s in Polish, but it provides a good look at the cemetery itself.

Finally, Mishpacha Magazine has a long article on Shavei Israel’s activities in Krakow. The article features interviews with Shavei Israel Chairman Michael Freund and our emissary to Krakow, Rabbi Avi Baumol. The article is in Hebrew (as you can see by the picture to the left). An English version will be out in a few more weeks and we’ll link to it then.
