Shavei in the news: Hebrew press covers Bnei Menashe aliyah
Shavei Israel’s support of the Bnei Menashe and their recent aliyah flights have been all over the Israeli news this week.
The Israeli website Ynet published an article on the Bnei Menashe focusing on Shavei Israel’s former emissary in India, Yochanan Phaltual, who is now living in the Kfar Hasidim absorption center with his family, along with 300 other Bnei Menashe immigrants. Read the story (in Hebrew) here.
The article also includes a video interview with Shavei Israel’s Avi Mizrachi who is heading up much of the logistics for the group’s integration into Israeli society.
Also on the Ynet site: our latest video which follows Yochanan and his family from their home in the Indian state of Manipur, to the emotional arrival at Ben-Gurion Airport, to the family’s temporary accommodations at Kfar Hasidim. The video is in Hebrew, but the interview with Yochanan is conducted in English. The video concludes with an evocative scene of the new immigrants learning Hebrew in the Kfar Hasidim ulpan in Israel.
You can see the video here:
Also in the news this week: the Yediot HaSharon local Israeli newspaper has a profile (also in Hebrew) of Shavei Israel. The picture shows Shavei Israel Chairman Michael Freund on the left, Member of Knesset Rabbi Dov Lipman on the right, and Yochanan in the middle. The article, which profiles Michael Freund, is entitled “Minister of Absorption.”
