Shavei Israel’s Jewish community apartment in Katowice, Poland, now has a kosher kitchen. The apartment, in which three young Jewish women live, is named “Be’er Miriam” – literally “Miriam’s Well” – after the biblical Miriam, who became a focus of community for the Israelites after their departure from Egypt. Be’er Miriam, similarly, has become a hotspot of culture, music and now kosher food. We wrote about Be’er Miriam here. Since its establishment, Be’er Miriam has organized an “Israeli Cafe,” and Israeli Film Club and various classes, including one in the Israeli self-defense art Krav Maga.

We have pictures from the actual kashering of the kitchen, under the supervision of Rabbi Yehoshua Ellis, our emissary to the Katowice region; a shopping trip to a local supermarket to buy utensils and food led by Rabbi Ellis; and a video where one of the Be’er Miriam women ritually immerses new pots and pans in a body of water prior to their being used in the kitchen.
