Bnei Menashe sukka competition

Bnei Menashe sukka competition

One of the highlights of the holiday of Sukkot in India is the annual sukka competition, which Shavei Israel has sponsored since 2010; the top ten selected sukkot receive a prize. Bnei Menashe communities from all over India participated this year and, for the first time, the Bnei Menashe in Myanmar (Burma) were also represented.

The sukka competition is organized by Shavei Israel’s Bnei Menashe “Fellows,” a specially-selected group of young Bnei Menashe men and women trained by Shavei Israel to provide instruction and support to their home communities.

Now it’s your turn. Which sukkot do you think should be awarded the top prizes?

We have pictures of sukkot from 11 different Bnei Menashe communities. We’ve labeled and numbered them. Please take a look at the links below, then go to our Facebook page and make your “virtual” vote via the Internet.

Beith Shalom, Churanchandpur

Imphal

Kangpokpi

Matiyang

Keithelman & Gamgiphai

Monglenpahi, Sijang, Tuijang, Zohar, Bairabi

We’ll be sending the results back to India. Knowing that the wider Facebook world is participating “virtually” in the sukka competition this year will be immensely gratifying to the Bnei Menashe. Thank you for participating!

Here are a few more pictures of the community in Churanchandpur building their sukkot.
