Bat Mitzvah in Nagaland
Mikhal Chochong Guite at her bat mitzvah
At the beginning of October, the Bnei Menashe in the village of Kohima, in the Indian state of Nagaland, celebrated the bat mitzvah of Mikhal Chochong Guite. Shavei Israel’s emissary to India, Yochanan Phaltual, attended and led several hours of classes for the bat mitzvah girl and her family. He also affixed a mezuzah at the home of Lucy Vaiphei, Mikhal’s aunt and presented the family with a machzor (a prayer book for the High Holydays) in the local language of Mizo, prepared by Shavei Israel.
