PALMA DE MALLORCA (EJP)—For the first time, the government of Spain’s the Balearic Islands condemned the persecution and forced conversion of the island’s Jews in the 15th century at the hands of the Inquisition.
An historic ceremony took place last week in Palma de Mallorca, on the 320th anniversary of the Auto-da- Fe in Palma, where 33 people known as Chuetas or Conversos were publicly burned at the stake by the Inquisition for secretly practicing Judaism.
