President of Portugal speaks to Jewish community in Lisbon
The president of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, paid a historic first-ever visit to the Jewish community of Lisbon in December.
Since the community has no full time rabbi, Shavei Israel’s Portuguese emissary Rabbi Elisha Salas was invited to attend.
Rabbi Salas was among several other important dignitaries, including the Israeli ambassador to Portugal and representatives of the three Jewish communities in Portugal.
