Bnei Menashe profiled in The Jewish World magazine

The Jewish World coverAri Soffer, managing editor of Arutz Sheva’s English language website, writes about how the Bnei Menashe celebrate Israel Independence Day back in India. He describes the main ceremony in Churachandpur, where Shavei Israel’s operations are headquartered, which attracted 1,500 people this year from throughout the Indian state of Manipur, many of whom had to travel for 15-20 hours by bus to participate.

“For the Bnei Menashe, Yom Ha’atzmaut is an expression of faith, and a testimony to the resilience of their longing for Zion,” Soffer quotes Shavei Israel Chairman Michael Freund for the article. “Israel for the Bnei Menashe is their ideal, the place they see as their future home.”

Or as Shavei Israel’s director for the Bnei Menashe Tzvi Khaute puts it, “We will be part of the nation-building process in the Jewish state, and we will proudly hold our heads high with the Israeli flag in our hands and see all the ingathering of the exiles from the four corners of the earth!”
