Shavei Israel now offering online Hebrew classes to Polish speakers
In addition to the new online mini-yeshiva for Polish-speaking Jews that Shavei Israel recently opened (see our article here), we have now started offering Hebrew classes over the Internet for the “Hidden Jews” of Poland. The Hebrew classes, like the mini-yeshiva, are taught by Rabbi Yitzhak Rapoport, a former Shavei emissary to Poland who continues to work with the Polish Jewish community from his home near Jerusalem.
Rabbi Rapoport is using web software from Wiziq to deliver classes live, allow students to ask questions and respond in real time, and to text chat privately to the instructor. The classes are all being recorded so that students who can’t make it to the actual session time can still participate (although they won’t be able to interact with Rabbi Rapoport “live,” of course).
Rabbi Rapoport’s Hebrew classes are open to anyone with Jewish roots or who is in the process of returning to Judaism and who lives in Poland. Two classes, for beginners and advanced students, are taking place on Thursday evenings. There are six students in the classes so far, some of whom are also enrolled in the mini-yeshiva. There is a symbolic price of 25 zlotys (around $8.00) a month.
