Bnei Menashe aliyah: pictures and videos from India and Israel

Michael Freund helps a Bnei Menashe man put on Tefillin at the New Delhi airport

We have assembled some fabulous pictures and videos of the resumed Bnei Menashe aliyah on our website. These include images taken by professional photographer Michal Fattal who traveled with Shavei Israel Chairman Michael Freund to India to accompany and document their emotional journey.

We have pictures of the group in Manipur before leaving for New Delhi; on the way to the airport in the Indian capital, and on the Uzbekistan Airways flight to Israel; and some striking shots of the moving reunions among Bnei Menashe families upon the group’s arrival at Ben Gurion Airport in Israel.

You can further feel the excitement in two videos we shot on the road to Israel [here and here] and in this video clip that appeared on the BBC.

What’s next?

Shavei Israel has arranged a warm landing for the new immigrants at Givat Haviva, a 40-acre educational campus near Hadera that includes housing, classrooms, a large dining room, swimming pool and library, all set amidst wide expanses of green lawns.

The Bnei Menashe will stay at Givat Haviva for approximately three months, after which they will move to Acre and Migdal HaEmek. Shavei Israel staff chose these two locations due to the availability of affordable housing, the demographics of the local population, religious opportunities, and immigration-specific facilities such as space for Hebrew language ulpan classes.

We will be bringing you more pictures and news in the coming weeks from Givat Haviva, as well as of the next flights from India. Keep your eyes tuned to this newsletter and our website for more exciting details.
