A Torah dedication in Colombia
This Jewish month of Elul became special for the Bnei Anousim community of Cali, Colombia. Recently, they celebrated the hachnasat Sefer Torah – (dedication of a new Torah scroll), the third one acquired by this community. Traditionally this is a festive ceremony with music and dancing that attracts a lot of participants, and this event was especially meaningful in the anticipation of the upcoming High Holidays.
Maguen Abraham, the Jewish community of Cali, enlists more than 100 members and together with 12 other local communities belongs to the ACIC – Asociación de Comunidades Israelitas de Colombia (Association of Jewish Communities of Colombia). Rabbi Shimon Yehoshua, Shavei Israel’s emissary in the country, was among the honored guests of the event.
