Holiday recap: Yom Kippur and Sukkot in Italy, Portugal and El Salvador

How were your holidays? For the Bnei Anousim celebrating in Spain, Portugal and South America, the Jewish holidays were a time of reflection, inspiration, joy and rediscovery.

The High Holy Day period is now over (and the rain we prayed for has already begun to fall here in Israel!), but we couldn’t resist sharing a few final photos from the past month.

Getting ready for Yom Kippur in Belmonte was especially festive with the arrival of two choirs – including a delightful children’s choir – who entertained local residents.

No sooner was Yom Kippur over than Belmonte’s Bnei Anousim built this sukkah:

The Jewish community in Palermo, Italy, sent us a couple of pictures of the sukkah they built this year.

But for sheer style and flair, the Bnei Anousim community El Salvador wins this year’s sukkah contest. San Salvador’s Beit Israel are very proud of their massive communal dwelling:
