The Jewish holiday of Sukkot begins this Wednesday night and we have a few pictures to mark the festivities.
For the past four years, the Jewish community of Katowice, Poland, has built a sukka (a temporary “hut” used during the week-long holiday) in the courtyard of the Jewish cemetery located in the nearby town of Bytom. Katowice and Bytom are adjacent to each other but have separate cemeteries because, before World War II, Bytom was in Germany and Katowice was in Poland. They are now part of a single united Katowice community in Poland.
We have pictures from this year’s community construction project, which Shavei Israel’s emissary to the region Rabbi Yehoshua Ellis tells us, includes four generations of builders – from Holocaust survivors to people who found out they were Jewish only a few years ago.

La festividad judía de sucot comienza este miércoles por la noche y tenemos algunas fotos para marcar la festividad.
Durante los últimos cuatro años, la comunidad judía de Katowice, Polonia, ha construido una sucá en el patio del cementerio judío localizado cerca del pueblo de Bytom. Las ciudades de Katowice y Bytom se encuentran una al lado de la otra, pero tienen distintos cementerios debido a que antes de la Shoá, Bytom era parte de Alemania y Katowice de Polonia. Ahora son parte de una misma comunidad judía.
Tenemos fotos de la construcción, la cual según lo que nos dice el emisario de Shavei Israel, el Rabino Yehoshúa Ellis, incluye 4 generaciones de constructores – desde sobrevivientes del holocausto hasta personas que descubrieron recientemente sus raíces.
